1. Note the cash total (taxes/fees in).
  2. Note the points price for the same stay/flight.
  3. Rough value ≈ cash ÷ points.
  4. If points win and you’d take the trip anyway, use points. If the cents-per-point are terrible — or taxes wipe the savings — pay cash.
